Denver’s dining scene has exploded with flavor, but there is something truly magnetic about a table covered in sizzling garlic shrimp and perfectly charred paella.

Hours: Tuesday to Thursday 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM; Friday to Saturday 4:00 PM – 10:30 PM; Sunday 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM
The 9th Door Capitol Hill delivers an authentic Spanish and Basque tapas experience, focusing on traditional recipes meant to be shared across the table.
It offers strong options like charcuterie boards and fresh seafood that appeal to diners who appreciate traditional tapas.
We spent a Tuesday evening here sampling a mix of small plates, and the savory paella paired with their well-balanced sangria easily stood out as the highlight. The chef-driven menu leans into classic flavors.
We also noticed how popular their Happy Hour and Tapas Tuesday specials are. It’s not surprising since they make premium bites feel more accessible for a casual weeknight outing.
One thing that caught us slightly off guard was the mandatory 3.5% kitchen assistance fee added to the bill. It’s worth keeping that in mind ahead of time, so the final total does not come as a surprise.
The service and atmosphere is always excellent.
By far my favorite tapas spot in Denver. The 9th Door elevates all the Spanish tapas you love and balances flavors better than most. The service and atmosphere is always excellent. Highly recommend their dátiles.

Variety of options
Spanish tapas, great drinks, quick service, fresh and tasty food. Authentic Spanish cuisine and mucho gusto! They had a variety of options including traditional jamón ibérico, cheese, tapas (our fav was the special available mushroom croquetas), and entrees like paella which we’ll be back to try. Thank you to our server, the chefs and team at this restaurant

Finding a spot that offers both an extensive drink selection and a menu that changes regularly can be challenging, yet Barcelona Wine Bar delivers both in a lively, social setting.
The kitchen focuses on an authentic tapas program inspired by classic Spanish flavors, while Mediterranean and South American influences add variety and creativity to the dishes.
Because the menu follows a seasonal approach, offerings shift based on ingredient availability. This helps meals feel fresh and prevents the experience from becoming repetitive.
The variety alone makes it easy to try something new each visit, especially when sharing plates with a group.
The wine list is another major highlight. It features one of the largest Spanish wine programs in the country, keeping wine enthusiasts browsing for quite a while
The energetic, trendy ambiance makes it a favorite for group gatherings and weekend outings, though the bustling space can become noisy. Service may slow down during peak hours.
We love Spanish food and wine
When you first step in to Barcelona there is a great vibe and the feel of an inviting eatery. We love Spanish food and wine and excited to see the tapas style cuisine along with paella! We tried it all along with a great Tempranillo from Spain and we were not disappointed. Highly recommend for the whole experience and value for a great meal.

Everything in the menu is amazin
Amazing place to get your Spanish Tapas Fix. Great selection of tapas and as authentic as it gets. The ambiance is amazing, and our servers Jacob and Brad are a delight to be served by. Definitely recommend this place if you want to eat the way the Spanish eat. Happy hour is recommended. Everything in the menu is amazing.

3. Ultreia

Website: https://ultreiadenver.com/
Address: 1701 Wynkoop Street in Historic Union Station Denver, CO 80202
Contact: 303-534-1970
Hours: Sunday to Thursday 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM; Friday to Saturday 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM
Nestled right inside a historic transit hub, Ultreia transports you straight to the Iberian Peninsula before you even take a bite.
The kitchen stands out by fusing classic Spanish tapas with Portuguese petiscos, creating a distinct “gastroteka” concept backed by a James Beard Award-winning chef.
The menu leans heavily into pintxos and shareables, beautifully complemented by an extensive gin and tonic program.
They also feature a daily happy hour that makes their upscale culinary approach quite approachable.
We also found the mural-lined interior and energetic atmosphere ideal for date nights or pre-travel drinks.
On the downside, the portion sizes are small for the price points. A few diners have also noticed inconsistencies in dish seasoning, occasionally finding dishes overly salty.
The staff was attentive and kind
We came in as a party of three with no dinner reservations, day before Valentine’s, and were seated at the bar. The staff was attentive and kind. We enjoyed two Spanish bottles of wine, and tapas that were incredible and fresh. The jamon sampler, the ham croquettes, shrimp toast, and the marinated olives and almonds… all fantastic. We also had the octopus and it was fork tender. I didnt take any pictures of the wines or food, because we enjoyed our time talking, eating, and drinking. Stop in, you won’t be disappointed.

Decoration was very chic and the staff were extremely friendly
Awesome food which blends authentic Spanish food with Latin American and American cuisine. Great wine list and cocktail menu with excellent choices of tapas and main plates. Despite a small interior, the decoration was very chic and the staff were extremely friendly accommodating us outside under heaters due to the overcrowded inside seating area.

4. El Five

Website: https://ediblebeats.com/restaurants/el-five/
Address: 2930 Umatilla 5th Floor Denver, CO 80211
Contact: 303-524-9193
Hours: Sunday to Thursday 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM; Friday to Saturday 5:00 PM – 11:00 PM
El Five is one of those restaurants where the setting competes with the food for attention.
Perched high above LoHi, it delivers sweeping skyline views alongside a bold “Tapas de Gibraltar” menu that blends Spanish-inspired dishes with North African and Middle Eastern flavors.
I attended a birthday dinner here last fall, and the combination of the energetic rooftop patio and the richly spiced paella made the night especially memorable. The setting feels built for occasions where the view is just as important as the food.
Operated by an employee-owned restaurant group, the space carries a lively, celebratory energy that suits group dinners and special events. The small plates are designed for sharing, which naturally keeps conversation flowing throughout the meal.
The location does come with logistical hurdles, though. Neighborhood parking is notoriously difficult to secure here.
Their reservation policies are also unforgiving, sometimes resulting in lost tables if your party arrives late.
Service was stellar, we shall return
Wow. Just wow. Started with amazing views and a drink before being seated for dinner. Loved the Mediterranean dips (you can get a half order), goat cheese croquettas, harissa eggplant fries, Tunisian couscous with lamb kebabs and sea bass! We decided on more
Tapas options instead of paella. Next time paella!! Rowe was a very knowledgeable
Wine Director and we had a lovely bottle of Spanish red. Service was stellar, we shall return.

Different menu options
This is a great location with a beautiful view of the Denver skyline. We spent our sixth year wedding anniversary on their balcony and felt right at home.
The tapa plates are properly sized for two people to share and try different menu options together. The seafood paella was very well done, with many types of shellfish included.
This is Spanish cuisine done right.

5. Lucina Eatery & Bar

Website: https://lucinaeatery.co/
Address: 2245 Kearney St 101 Denver, CO 80207
Contact: 720-814-1053
Hours: Tuesday to Saturday 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Sometimes the most memorable meals happen in cozy, community-focused neighborhoods rather than busy downtown areas. Lucina Eatery & Bar fits that experience well.
This welcoming eatery brings a unique fusion of Latin and Spanish flavors to the table, pairing coastal Spanish flavors with vibrant Caribbean and Latin American traditions.
The chef-driven menu focuses on fresh, seasonal ingredients, with rotating weekend specials and bright ceviche dishes.
The beverage program also supports the food nicely. There are options like dry sherries and smoky mezcals that pair well with the menu’s flavor profile.
The atmosphere leans into lively, family-style hospitality, which makes the space feel both energetic and personal.
Unfortunately, the stellar hospitality sometimes wanes as the evening progresses. Diners have noted that service can become rushed or less attentive near the end of operating hours, dropping slightly below expectations given the premium food.
My new favorite restaurant
Talk about an amazing experience and one of the best meals that I have had the pleasure of experiencing. Bright, fresh, rich, and herbaceous flavors that highlight several fantastic aspects from Latin American, Latin Caribbean, and Coastal Spanish cuisine. Well executed and well served. Out of hundreds that I’ve tried in the area, Lucina is my new favorite restaurant. Bravo!

The food makes it worthwhile
Amazing! I’ve been here a few times and am always amazed with how good the food is, rich in flavors and varieties of Spanish cuisine.
Our only issue is that it’s hard to talk/hear in this restaurant. I’m not sure if it’s the acoustics or table set up, but the food makes it worthwhile. (Plus Scoops next door for a sweet post dinner treat, is the perfect combo).
