5 Best Retirement Homes in Denver for Quality Senior Living

best-retirement-home-denver
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Care Flexibility: We examined communities offering multiple levels of care on a single campus. This ensures residents can age in place without needing to relocate as their health needs change.

Wellness Programs: Physical and mental health resources were carefully evaluated to prioritize active aging. Facilities with evidence-based fitness classes and cognitive therapies scored higher on our list.

Location and Accessibility: We considered each facility's proximity to urban centers, parks, and medical centers. Walkable neighborhoods and reliable transportation services offer residents greater independence.

Resident Safety: Security protocols were analyzed to guarantee a safe environment for all seniors. We specifically looked for advanced visitor-screening technologies and around-the-clock emergency-response systems.

Social Amenities: We assessed dining options, common areas, and community activities designed to foster engagement. Strong social spaces prevent isolation and encourage a thriving, connected lifestyle.

Searching for a great retirement home in Denver can feel hard, especially when you’re balancing location and quality of support.

As we age, finding a space that feels like a real home is the main goal. Fortunately, Denver has many senior living options for active adults and those who need extra care.

I checked out the top facilities in the city to help you choose the right one. Let’s explore the best communities for comfort and safety in the Mile High City. This guide helps your family find the perfect fit.

Moving to an urban tech center might not be the traditional vision of senior living, but the walkable environment here is a major standout.

Because the building focuses on a high-density urban experience, you won’t find any sprawling outdoor green campuses here. Still, it’s an excellent choice for active seniors who love the city lifestyle.

What we love about Carillon at Belleview Station is how it embraces high-tech senior living by outfitting apartments with smart setups. These features include Amazon Alexa for voice-activated convenience.

During my recent visit to check out their amenities, I was also impressed by their proprietary fitness program and specialized classes. They even offer multi-venue dining options that rival upscale hotels.

However, a significant drawback is their lack of on-site long-term clinical bed care for severe medical conditions. Residents needing around-the-clock complex nursing will eventually have to transition to another facility.

Pros

  • Multi-venue gourmet dining
  • Advanced visitor security kiosk
  • Pet-friendly accommodations
  • Integrated independent and memory care

Cons

  • No long-term clinical nursing
  • Limited outdoor green space

Customer Reviews:

The staff does an amazing job
Carillon at Bellevue Station is a very special place. I lived there in independent living for about a year and a half before we placed my wife in Monarch House memory care. The staff does an amazing job, taking care of her and keeping her busy. It’s a tough assignment, but they do it all day, every day. I can honestly say I feel my placing her there makes me feel like I am doing everything I can to take care of my wife during this incredibly difficult time in our life.

Very helpful and responsive!
Staff is attentive and caring to the residents needs. Very helpful and responsive! The residents seem happy and grateful to be part of a friendly and active community. I always have a positive experience when I visit The Carillon at Belleview. Keep it up!

2. The Courtyards at Mountain View

Downsizing can be intimidating for families, especially when they worry about feeling cramped. The Courtyards at Mountain View tackles this problem by offering assisted living floor plans that are among the largest in the Denver area.

They provide a full range of care, including independent living and memory care, all on one campus. Their memory care wing uses a special program based on brain research to keep residents active and engaged.

I really appreciate how they use social exercises like regular counselling to support everyone’s mental well-being.

However, the financial side of things requires some careful planning. They only accept private payments and don’t take government-subsidized programs.

Also, help with daily tasks is billed as separate hourly charges. This means your monthly expenses can change, so it’s important to budget for these fluctuating costs.

Pros

  • Spacious apartment floor plans
  • Complimentary scheduled transportation
  • Pay-for-what-you-use care model
  • 24-hour emergency response system

Cons

  • Strict private-pay policy
  • Fluctuating hourly care charges

Customer Reviews:

Incredibly kind, patient, and attentive
Meghann and the staff are incredibly kind, patient, and attentive. They really take the time to make residents feel comfortable and cared for, and the place is always clean and welcoming. It’s clear that they genuinely care about the people who live here, and that makes a big difference. I would definitely recommend this nursing home to anyone looking for a safe and supportive environment for their loved ones.

Great resource and help to my family
This company has been such a great resource and help to my family. Their customer service is excellent — everyone is caring, responsive, and professional. The office manager, Denise, is amazing and always goes above and beyond to help with everything she does. I truly appreciate all the support we’ve received. I highly recommend this home care service to anyone looking for dependable, compassionate care.

Address: 2835 W 32nd Ave

Hours: Available 24/7

The Gardens at St. Elizabeth offers a unique senior living experience in a historic urban setting. Unlike suburban developments, this community is very walkable and is anchored by a stunning 120-year-old chapel.

The building’s historic charm makes it feel more like a home and less like a clinical facility. One of the best features is the restaurant on the fourteenth floor, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the mountains and the city.

As a non-profit ministry, they focus on providing compassionate care with a strong spiritual connection. They offer a complete lifecycle of care, allowing you to remain in the same community even as your health needs evolve.

One important detail to consider is that the memory care unit isn’t secured and therefore, not suitable for residents who tend to wander.

Also, those in assisted living must be able to handle their own medical tasks, like insulin injections.

Pros

  • Complete lifecycle of care
  • On-site specialty medical clinics
  • Unique historic architecture
  • High-end social dining spaces

Cons

  • Unsecured memory care unit
  • Staff restricted from clinical tasks

Customer Reviews:

EXCELLENT place to live
The staff at The Gardens at St. Elizabeth provide a welcoming helpful warm atmosphere for residents. They really care about the people who live there and strive to make it a place that is not only safe, but it’s also a place that feels like home. EXCELLENT place to live and blessed to have found it!

This place is amazing
This place is amazing. The staff really care. In the four months my mother has lived there she has gotten a new lease on life. The staff worked collaboratively to problem-solve how to support my mother to live independently and safely with her dementia. She is busy and fulfilled and really couldn’t be happier.

4. Hilltop Reserve Senior Living

Website: https://hilltopreserve.com/

Address: 525 S Holly St

Contact: (720) 815-3050

Hours: Monday – Sunday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Hilltop Reserve Senior Living offers a premium experience with a rooftop lounge and amazing skyline views. They avoid a clinical look by blending right into a beautiful residential area.

One of the standout features is the saltwater pool, which makes the whole place feel like a high-end resort.

There are also several on-site upscale dining venues that offer a wide variety of food. The location is unbeatable for anyone who loves spending time in local neighborhood parks.

Plus, every residence here includes smart technology so that seniors can manage their lighting with just their voice.

One thing to keep in mind is that the urban design means there are no massive walking trails on the grounds.

On top of that, they don’t offer a dedicated skilled nursing wing. This means if you eventually need long-term clinical oversight, you would need to move to a different facility.

Pros

  • Resort-style saltwater pool
  • Advanced visitor screening kiosk
  • Upscale neighborhood access
  • Multiple formal dining choices

Cons

  • No long-term clinical nursing
  • Lacks sprawling outdoor walking trails

Customer Reviews:

The facility is beautiful
Toured with a family member who is looking to move into independent living. This was by far the best community we’ve seen. The activities exceeded my family member’s expectations and gave her a whole new perspective on what independent living can offer. The facility is beautiful—welcoming, clean, and thoughtfully designed. We left feeling excited and hopeful about the possibilities here at Hilltop.

I am grateful for the interaction
My first experience in checking out “next step living” was delightful. Erin immediately felt like a friend as she informed me of the amenities at Hilltop. Sherry, director, followed up with a friendly call and sent more info. Although not yet ready for that move, I have a positive feeling for independent living in the future.

I am grateful for the interaction. GB

5. Brookdale University Park

hilltop-reserve-senior-living

Website: https://www.brookdale.com/en.html

Address: 2020 S Monroe St

Contact: (720) 833-4938

Hours: Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Brookdale University Park is a great choice for families who want a permanent home for their loved ones.

They offer a complete range of services, from independent living to skilled nursing. They even deliver hygiene essentials right to your door. Plus, their memory care unit focuses on a daily routine to support brain health.

Wellness is a top priority here, and the facility offers high-end perks like a heated indoor pool and an on-site bank.

However, you should be aware that the costs are not fixed. Because the pricing is based on personal health assessments, your monthly expenses can increase significantly over time.

It’s also important to remember that changing from one level of care to another involves paperwork that can take a little while to process.

Pros

  • Integrated medical and rehabilitation services
  • Customizable daily care plans
  • Pet-friendly living accommodations
  • Diverse apartment floor plans

Cons

  • Variable and unpredictable monthly pricing
  • Administrative delays during care transitions

Customer Reviews:

We never worried for a moment
My 96-year-old mother spent 12 years living at Brookdale University Park, first independently and then in assisted living (AL). The community was engaged and supportive, the staff helpful and caring. When mom arrived in AL she required extra help with mobility and extra attention to personal care. We never worried for a moment that her needs would be met, and always with a smile. This was especially true at the very end.

Brookdale U.P. is a first-rate, well-run independent and assisted living community.

I am so grateful for everyone’s support

I can’t say enough good things about Brookdale University Park. I am so grateful for everyone’s support and care of my mother from Independent Living to Assisted Living. Rosalee and her staff are literally angels on earth!
