Stepping into Sam’s No. 3 feels like walking into a piece of Denver history. Operating since 1927, it delivers a classic diner experience with a wide-ranging menu that stretches from traditional American breakfasts to hearty Southwestern comfort food.

The aroma of sizzling bacon and roasted green chilies hits you the moment you walk through the door.

We like how broad and approachable the menu is. There are vegetarian and gluten-free options alongside the standard diner staples, so it works well for groups with different dietary needs.

If you are comparing different restaurants in Denver, this establishment offers massive portions that ensure you will not leave hungry.

The downtown location, though, closes early on Sundays through Tuesdays at 2:00 PM, so plan your weekday visits accordingly.

Cons

  • Early closure on early weekdays
  • Downtown parking can be difficult

Gives you fantastic portions of delicious food

Sam’s is one of those classic, fast, cheap, short-order diners that gives you fantastic portions of delicious food. They’re open super early and are convenient to downtown if you happen to have an early flight in to town like I did. Start your day right, start your day at Sam’s!

2. Pete’s Kitchen

Website: https://www.petesrestaurants.com/petes-kitchen

Address: 1962 E Colfax Ave., Denver, CO 80206

Contact: 303-321-3139

Hours: Monday – Thursday 7:00 am – 9:00 pm, Friday – Saturday: 24 hours, Sunday: until 9:00 p

Our late-night bite cravings often lead us to Pete’s Kitchen on East Colfax Avenue. It’s a long-running diner known for mixing classic American comfort food with Greek-inspired dishes.

Since 1988, it has built a reputation as a dependable stop for hearty, budget-friendly meals, especially when everything else is closed.

We like how it leans into its late-night identity on weekends. The kitchen runs 24 hours on Fridays and Saturdays, making it a go-to for post-night-out cravings.

Dishes like the breakfast burrito supreme, paired with their rich green chili sauce, are often the kind of comfort food that hits best after midnight.

The menu also supports catering for larger groups, which adds flexibility beyond the diner setting.

Just note that the restaurant closes relatively early at 9:00 PM from Sunday through Thursday, limiting your late-night options during the workweek.

Pros

  • Open 24 hours on weekends
  • Blends American and Greek specialties
  • Long-standing original signature items
  • Comprehensive catering services available

Cons

  • Early evening closure on weekdays
  • Can get crowded late at night

Prices are cheap, the food is good

Super packed, but the prices are cheap, the food is good and the service is quick. Dont go if you get anxiety in small packed spaces. I’ve been twice, once at midnight on a weekend and once at 11 AM on a Sunday morning. The midnight adventure didnt have as many people, so it was more comfortable for me personally, but both times the food hit the spot perfectly!

My absolute favorite place to eat anywhere

Denver staple, and personally a childhood landmark. It hasn’t changed since I’ve been going. Same great staff, friendly, caring. If you go long enough you begin to feel like family. They’re open 24/7 cheap prices. Just a great place. My absolute favorite place to eat anywhere

Lively music and the smell of fresh tortillas set the tone at Illegal Pete’s LoDo. It’s a Mission-style burrito spot in Lower Downtown known for fast service and highly customizable meals.

The atmosphere is casual and energetic. Every time we visit, there’s a steady flow of locals stopping in for quick lunches, late-afternoon bites, or relaxed evening hangouts.

We really like how flexible the ordering experience here is. You can build your burrito or bowl exactly how you want it. The grilled steak in particular tends to stand out for its seasoning and flavor.

The space also stays lively into the evening, making it feel more like a social spot than a typical quick-service restaurant.

They run a fantastic daily happy hour from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM featuring discounted draft beers to wash down your spicy salsa.

The dedicated weekend breakfast menu, though, is unfortunately limited strictly to Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Pros

  • Extended daily happy hour specials
  • Dedicated weekend breakfast menu
  • Open late on Friday and Saturday
  • Hosts regular trivia and bingo nights

Cons

  • Breakfast unavailable during the workweek
  • Downtown location gets very loud

Great place for a burrito if you want to switch it up from Chipotle. They also offer a lot more options. If you haven’t had breakfast here I highly recommend it, the breakfast burritos are cheap and delicious. They also have the best tip jars

The food here is incredible! You’ll get a hefty portion, it’s cooked right as you order it, and to top it off its incredibly affordable for the location and quality. Even the bar had affordable and very well made drinks.

I need to find one of these near me just because of the experience I had here.

4. Kokoro Restaurant

Website: https://www.kokororestaurants.com/denver-loc

Address: 2390 S Colorado Blvd, Denver, CO 80222

Contact: (720) 229-1228

Hours: Sunday – Thursday: 11:00 am – 9:00 pm, Friday – Saturday: 11:00 am – 9:30 pm

Finding quick meals that still rely on fresh ingredients is where Kokoro Restaurant really stands out.

Operating since 1986, it focuses on fast, affordable rice bowls and hot udon noodles made with hand-cut vegetables and quality beef. The result is simple, comforting food that feels thoughtfully prepared rather than rushed.

It’s also great that they offer a convenient drive-thru window for quick meal pickups when you are in a rush.

If your palate needs a break from exploring Indian restaurants in Denver, this spot offers a wonderfully savory Japanese alternative.

One minor drawback is their relatively limited dessert selection, leaving you searching elsewhere if you have a strong sweet tooth.

Pros

  • Prioritizes never-frozen fresh ingredients
  • Convenient drive-thru pickup window
  • Large-format catering items available
  • Wide variety of Japanese dishes

Cons

  • Extremely limited dessert selection
  • Drive-thru lines peak during lunch

The service has been fast and friendly each time

The service has been fast and friendly each time I have visited. I appreciate the free rewards card and the happy hour offerings. Despite the cheap price, the food is great – I typically get the edamame and a few rolls of sushi.

The food was cheap, the bull was big, and the food was delicious

We were highly impressed the first time we tried this place. The food was cheap, the bull was big, and the food was delicious! We also got free sushi was each Bowl, that was very surprising and it was really good. We would highly recommend.

5. My Brother’s Bar

my-brothers-bar-logo

Website: https://www.mybrothersbar.com/

Address: 2376 15th St. Denver CO 80202

Contact: 303-455-9991

Hours: Monday to Thursday: 11 am – midnight, Friday and Saturday: 11 am – 2 am, Sundays: 10 am – 8 pm

Stepping into My Brother’s Bar feels like stepping back in time to 1873. As one of the oldest bars in the city, it leans into a classic, old-school atmosphere built around strong drinks and simple, well-executed food.

We like how straightforward the menu is. Late-night bites like the bison burger stand out for their flavor and no-frills presentation.

The selection also includes beef and vegetarian patties that keep things accessible for different preferences.

Weekend brunch adds another layer, giving it some flexibility beyond the late-night bar crowd.

The experience is intentionally stripped down in a good way. There are no televisions or modern distractions, which keeps the focus on conversation and the food itself.

That said, sports fans looking to catch a game may find the lack of screens a drawback.

Pros

  • Features multiple affordable burger and sandwich options
  • Provides a dedicated weekend morning brunch menu
  • Offers beef, bison, and vegetarian burger patties
  • Remains open until midnight or later most nights

Cons

  • Excludes televisions and modern electronic distractions
  • Closes early at 8:00 PM on Sundays

If you’re looking for cheap greasy food and beer, this is the place for you

If you’re looking for cheap greasy food and beer, this is the place for you. Great atmosphere, always smells like onion rings and they have a really nice (simple), intimate outdoor patio. There’s no sign, you just gotta know where it is.

Food was cheap in price, and worth every penny

Fantastic spot for a good bar meal. Food was cheap in price, and worth every penny. Busy Saturday dinner, packed house at 630pm. Good game out on time and HOT. Service was fast and efficient, no BS, all business.

We will be back real soon.

Highly recommend the Hot Bum Steer and a side of Cajun Aoli.

So satisfied my pants and my wallet are bursting 😉
