We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.
  • Quality of Ingredients: We looked for restaurants that prioritize imports from Tokyo’s famous markets and use high-grade seasonal produce. Freshness is the foundation of any great sushi experience.

  • Chef Interaction and Atmosphere: We assessed the intimacy of the seating and the skill of the chefs. A great omakase should feel like a personal performance at the counter.

  • Creativity and Technique: We evaluated how well the kitchen balances traditional methods with modern flair. Unique seasoning and expert rice preparation are key indicators of quality.

  • Overall Value: We considered the number of courses and the exclusivity of the ingredients relative to the price. It’s important to know if the experience justifies the investment.

1. Uchi Denver

Address: 2501 Lawrence St

Hours: Monday – Sunday 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Uchi Denver is well known for their “Perfect Bite” approach, where every piece of sushi comes pre-seasoned, so you never need to add soy sauce. The flavors are bold and sometimes unexpected, but they work together really well.

One diner we spoke with raved about the 10-course omakase, noting that many of the vegetables come straight from the restaurant’s own rooftop greenhouse.

For seafood, some of their daily specials are sourced directly from Japan’s Toyosu Market, ensuring outstanding freshness and authentic flavors.

In contrast to quieter, more traditional sushi spots, the vibe here feels lively and modern, so it gets pretty loud inside, especially when the place is full. Also, they’re so popular, so booking your table a few weeks in advance is a smart idea.

Pros

  • Pre-seasoned “Perfect Bite” style
  • Hyper-local rooftop greenhouse produce
  • Sourcing from Toyosu Market
  • Great “Social Hour” discounts

Cons

  • Very loud and high-energy atmosphere, especially when packed
  • Popular spot; need to book a few weeks in advance

Our sushi chef made great conversation and had excellent recommendations

Uchi made our anniversary memorable. The atmosphere was good, the food was amazing, cocktails were great, and overall service was thoughtful. We ordered the omakase which was 10 courses and each dish was very impressive. Our sushi chef made great conversation and had excellent recommendations. Everything tasted fresh. Just nothing to really critique.

The food was incredible

I can’t say enough about how great this restaurant is! We got the Omakase dinner and we’re impressed with the quality of food and the flavors. The food was incredible and the staff that brought us each dish were extremely knowledgeable. Our waitress was so nice and took great care of us. The food was a work of art and you can feel the passion of everyone that worked there. Impressive restaurant!!!

Address: 98 Steele St.

Hours: Sunday – Thursday 5 PM-9 PM, Friday & Saturday 5 PM-9:30 PM

If you’re after famous dishes like the Miso Black Cod, Matsuhisa Denver is the spot to check out.

Their “Chef’s Daily Creation” omakase is a true treat, with each course showing off super fresh seafood that tastes like it just arrived from the coast.

One regular told us that pairing these plates with their exclusive Hokusetsu sake made the meal even more memorable.

Add to that, the whole place feels really upscale and sophisticated, so it’s perfect for special occasions.

Just know that this is one of the priciest places in town, especially if you order drinks. The tables are also pretty close together, which can make it feel less private if you’re hoping for a quiet night out.

Pros

  • Iconic Japanese-Peruvian fusion style
  • World-class Hokusetsu sake labels
  • Sophisticated Cherry Creek atmosphere
  • Unimpeachably fresh seafood imports

Cons

  • High prices; drinks add up quickly
  • Tables are closely spaced; less private experience

Customer Reviews

It was unquestionably one of the greatest meals we have ever had

My girlfriend and I visited for New Years Eve, and our server – Sam – led us through an omakase dinner with wine pairings.  It was unquestionably one of the greatest meals we have ever had!   Unbelievable food, and perfect wine pairings!   Sam was incredible, and everyone treated us extremely well.   We cannot wait to come back for another fantastic experience!

Highly recommend this to anyone

We came in for the Omakase experience and it did not disappoint! Everything was sublime. Our sushi chef Matsuh was amazing and our server Jessica was absolutely incredible. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for the best sushi experience Denver has to offer.

3. Temaki Den

temaki-den

Website: http://www.temakiden.com/

Address: 3350 Brighton Blvd.

Contact: +1 (303) 200-0530

Hours: Monday – Thursday: 4:30 PM – 9:00 PM; Friday – Saturday: 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM, 4:30 PM – 10 PM; Sunday: 11:30 AM – 2:30, 4:30 PM – 9 PM

If you’re looking for a standout sushi restaurant, Temaki Den is the place to go since they put all their attention on super pure handrolls and flame-seared sushi.

Their “Aburi” style fish is a highlight: flash-seared for a creamy texture, served with nori that’s always extra crisp because it’s rolled fresh.

What’s really nice is that their omakase feels way more approachable, since you can usually talk with your server and set your budget.

Aside from that, they also win praise for their industrial vibe, since they’re located in The Source. In fact, one guest told us it’s perfect for a casual mid-week dinner.

However, this is a smaller spot, so they don’t accept traditional reservations, which some people find annoying. Also, the menu mostly sticks to rolls and nigiri, so don’t expect a wide range of hot kitchen dishes here.

Pros

  • Approachable budget-based omakase
  • Expert “Aburi” flame-seared technique
  • Ultra-crisp premium nori
  • Modern industrial-chic setting

Cons

  • Small spot; no reservations accepted
  • Mostly offer rolls and nigiri; limited variety

Thanks for a great experience

We went for our one year anniversary and it was so good! We did the omakase – highly recommend. Each dish just melted in the mouth and our waiter, Ryan S, had great recommendations. To start, had the spicy edamame and miso soup, along with tea throughout the meal – also highly recommend. Can’t wait to go back! Thanks for a great experience 🙂

I would highly recommend the choice omakase

Hands down the best sushi restaurant in Denver! Temaki exceeded all expectations!! The fish was extremely fresh, the cocktails were delicious, the service was wonderful, and the prices were well priced for everything it had to offer. I would highly recommend the choice omakase, it was out of this world!

4. Kizaki (at Denchu)

kizaki-at-denchu

Website: https://denchukizaki.com/

Address: 1551 S Pearl St.

Contact: +1 (720) 512-2753

Hours: Tuesday – Saturday: 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Kizaki gives you a super intimate Edomae-style sushi adventure that totally deserves a Michelin star. With only nine seats at the counter, you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped straight into Chef Toshi Kizaki’s own kitchen.

The meal is a multi-hour journey featuring over 20 courses, with every piece of fish carefully aged or cured to create flavors you won’t find anywhere else.

Even the rice gets special attention! It’s got this unique texture and tang that makes even rare delicacies like gizzard shad taste incredible.

Just know that dining here is a big financial commitment, as the price is one of the highest in town. Also, snagging a seat is almost impossible because of their high demand.

Pros

  • Michelin-starred Edomae authenticity
  • Intimate 9-seat chef interaction
  • Rare and aged fish delicacies
  • Unique proprietary rice recipe

Cons

  • Very expensive pricing
  • High demand; seats sell out extremely fast

I would say worth the money to experienced

It was a great experienced dinner last night. I would say worth the money to experienced the authenticity of Omakase. Chef Toshi, Kyle and the rest of the crew did a wonderful job. Thanks for my bbf!

Service is impeccable

Amazing authentic Japanese omakase sushi experience.  While pricy, you can tell that everything you eat is of the highest quality.   Service is impeccable.   Chef counterexpwrience is the only way to go!  Already booked our next visit!

5. Izakaya Den

izakaya-den

Website: http://www.izakayaden.net/

Address: 1487-A S Pearl St.

Contact: +1 (303) 777-0691

Hours: Tuesday – Thursday: 5:00 PM – 9:30 PM; Friday – Saturday: 4:30 PM – 10:30 PM

Izakaya Den is a beautiful sake house sharing the same world-class fish as Sushi Den, their famous neighbor.

Their omakase stands out because it mixes classic sushi with creative Japanese tapas, so you might enjoy a perfect piece of nigiri and then something like miso-glazed eggplant. This variety makes it perfect for groups who all want to try something different.

The place’s design is gorgeous, too, especially the second floor with its retractable glass roof.

Sadly, we’ve noticed that when the place fills up, service can feel rushed, especially if there’s a line out the door.

Also, their omakase is usually served at a regular table and not piece-by-piece at a chef’s counter, so the experience isn’t as personal as a small sushi bar.

Pros

  • Mix of sushi and Japanese tapas
  • Stunning retractable glass roof design
  • Shares high-end Sushi Den fish supply
  • Award-winning architectural space

Cons

  • Service can feel rushed during peak hours
  • Served at tables rather than a counter; lacks personal chef interaction

The chef made the night memorable

✋ down best sushi in Denver. We did omakase style and was not disappointed. The chef made the night memorable. He put thoughts into the foods, entertained us. The restaurant is classy, fancy. Can’t beat the price either.

Becca, thank you for the meal of a lifetime

I agree with all the glowing reviews about Izakaya Den.  My only additional comment is about the superior service Becca provided.  We, essentially, had our own personalized Omakase curated by the in depth knowledge of our exceptional server.  Becca, thank you for the meal of a lifetime.
