Stepping into the vibrant Union Station neighborhood, Tavernetta immediately stands out as a premier Italian dining destination. It’s known for fresh, handmade pastas and a thoughtfully curated Italian-focused wine list.

We actually dined here last month, and the silky texture of their handcrafted noodles completely blew my mind. Every plate leans into authentic regional flavors that feel like they’re meant to transport you straight to Italy.

The ambiance does a great job of balancing casual comfort with upscale elegance, which is why it’s often mistaken for a fine dining restaurant in Denver.

Their daily afternoon specials are also fantastic for early diners. They have a diverse seating layout, so you can usually snag a walk-in spot.

Unfortunately, there’s a mandatory $10 parking fee in the adjacent garage, even if the ticket is validated by the host.

Lovely restaurant with professional staff and delicious food. Very celiac friendly, they had plenty of gluten free options to choose from, including gluten free pasta. The lamb ragu was delicious and they had gluten free focacia. Scallops were delicious but the grapefruit didn’t make sense in the dish. I did notice though that my gluten free pasta was a slightly smaller portion with less sauce than the same non-gf pasta dish. I would definitely return though (and I did!).

The wagyu beef pasta was definitely my favorite dish

A perfect experience.  This is where I chose to spend my birthday while visiting my old Colorado stomping ground.  If Bobby Stuckey is involved, you know the bar will be set high.  Every sip and every bite were a mouthwatering experience.  The wagyu beef pasta was definitely my favorite dish and it was eaten so quickly we forgot to get a picture.   I would highly suggest dining here if you appreciate high quality food escapades.

Angelo’s Taverna is a beloved neighborhood staple that has built its reputation since 1974. It combines old-world family recipes with modern touches, such as char-grilled oysters. 

The moment you step inside, the lively, nostalgic energy really sets it apart from other Italian restaurants in Denver. It’s no wonder it draws in crowds who value authentic, no-nonsense cooking.

We really love their homemade pappardelle and ravioli. It delivers that ideal, satisfying chew you only get from truly from-scratch dough. 

Getting a table is also more manageable than you might expect if you use their two-week priority seating list, which helps take the pressure off weekend planning.

However, if you’re hoping to book their private space for a daytime gathering, you must meet a strict food-and-beverage minimum between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

That duck pasta was decadent

That duck pasta was decadent. The limoncello cake had me hooked. Loved the lamb Popsicles. And the oysters were incredibly fresh and delicious. The staff are super friendly and accommodating, kind to our barely toddler and two parents trying to have a birthday night out. Overall their food it out of this world and we’re now big fans.

Nothing beats the satisfaction of a meal crafted specifically for your palate right when you order it. That’s why we really love Gaetano’s.

They prioritize made-to-order pasta dishes, featuring fantastic house-made preparations and convenient large-format catering options. 

The moment you walk in, the rich, savory aroma of simmering sauces immediately hits. It definitely sets the tone before you even sit down.

Diners we spoke with mostly raved about the restaurant’s signature ricotta gnocchi and the decadent lobster ravioli. When we tried them ourselves, it was easy to see why because of how delicious and indulgent they were. 

Another strong point is how accommodating they are with dietary needs, especially with excellent gluten-free substitutes available for most menu items.

It’s just a bummer that they’re completely closed for lunch on Mondays, so early-week visits need a bit of planning if you’re craving a pasta fix.

Their pasta sauce is incredibly delicious

Great classic Denver spot. Definitely a go to. Their pasta sauce is incredibly delicious, and I say that as an Italian-American growing up on bomb ass homemade Italian. That said, their veal is a thin steak instead of a tender baby cow. Alas, I will continue to bring my patronage here, as I have an affinity for old school North Denver spots worth visiting. This is the type of place you would find any mobster after he was done filming the movie. Authentic Italian food, rich atmosphere, and to top it off a great wait staff. I will be coming back and often. The happy hour is one that does not spare. Watch public enemies and then come straight here.

The cozy, dimly lit dining room provides the perfect backdrop for savoring meticulously prepared seasonal ingredients. 

The only downside is that the establishment operates strictly for dinner service. It also remains completely closed on Sundays and Mondays, limiting weekend accessibility.

I felt it lived up to or exceeded the hype

Great restaurant! I usually end up disappointed by restaurants that have as much recognition as this one, but I felt it lived up to or exceeded the hype. The service is great and food is delicious. We particularly loved the focaccia, carrots, and the warm chocolate chip cookie was the best I’ve ever had. The pasta (of course) is great!

The pasta was incredible

Olivia is simply wonderful! From the atmosphere to the friendly a service to the absolutely delicious food, this restaurant has it all! We sat at the community table and just so happened to be next to friends we knew. The cocktails were lovely and the pasta was incredible. I’m gluten free and they had so many options, including gluten free focaccia and pasta! And their desserts were gluten free as well (hello cheesecake!) We’ll definitely be back, this is an amazing spot!

Adventurous eaters who enjoy culinary crossovers will find Spuntino especially exciting. It blends traditional Italian techniques with unexpected flavor profiles, such as warm South Indian spices. 

On my anniversary visit last year, the spicy kick in their delicate capellini completely changed how I think about experimental dishes done right.

We also like how story-driven the experience feels. The staff clearly enjoys sharing the inspiration behind each menu item, which adds a personal touch that makes the meal more memorable and engaging.

For a more spontaneous night out, it’s usually easy to walk in and grab a seat at the bar, which keeps things relaxed and flexible.

One limitation to keep in mind is that it is dinner-only, so midday cravings for their more inventive dishes will have to wait.

One of the best meals I’ve had in Denver.

The service was great. Our server described the dishes in a way that make our mouths water and gave recommendations that did not miss.

The burrata, the foccacia, the lasagna and the dumpling pasta was all amazing. The flavor profile of the dumpling pasta was like nothing ive ever tried and the cherries took it to another level.
