Top 5 Best Transmission Shops in Denver to Fix Your Car’s Gear

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Technical Expertise: I looked for shops with technicians who hold specialized certifications, such as those from the Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association (ATRA).

This ensures the team has deep, niche knowledge rather than just general mechanical skills.

Service Transparency: Honesty about what a repair actually entails is a major factor for me. I prioritized businesses that offer detailed diagnostic reports and clear explanations before they even touch your vehicle.

Warranty Coverage: A repair is only as good as the guarantee behind it. I selected shops that offer strong local or nationwide warranties to give you peace of mind after you leave the lot.

Customer Reliability: I checked how these businesses handle complex issues, such as diesel engines and heavy-duty RVs. Shops that can manage specialized drivetrains often have a higher standard for precision and equipment quality.

Finding out your car has a failing gearbox feels like a heavy blow to your wallet and your schedule. I’ve noticed that local drivers often feel stuck between pricey dealerships and questionable corner garages when their gears start slipping.

This list highlights the top-rated specialists in the Mile High City who provide honest diagnostics and reliable fixes.

I’ve gathered these options to help you find the best transmission shop in Denver so you can get back on the road safely.

How much does a transmission shop charge in Denver?

Denver drivers typically spend between $1,800 and $3,500 for a transmission rebuild, while full replacements for modern vehicles can exceed $8,000.

Fluid Change/Flush$80 – $400
Minor Transmission Repair$300 – $1,400

Clutch Repair$800 – $1,500

1. Wizard Transmission

Address: 2271 W Evans Ave

Contact: (303) 733-8494

Hours: Monday – Friday: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Wizard Transmission stands out because they offer a lifetime of free annual maintenance services for any car they’ve rebuilt. This means you won’t have to pay for fluid or filter changes for as long as you own that vehicle.

I found their 30,000 lb lifting facility quite impressive, as it allows them to work on massive RVs that most shops simply can’t fit on a standard lift.

Plus, their ATRA-certified technicians use a deep 27-point scan to check everything from electrical signals to fluid health before recommending a fix. The team is also great at providing free estimates with no hidden fees.

I spoke to a neighbor who used their free metro towing service, and it saved them a massive headache when their car wouldn’t shift out of park.

While the free diagnostic is thorough, keep in mind that it usually takes about four hours. You also won’t find them doing oil changes or window replacement since they stick strictly to drivetrain work.

Pros

  • Free lifetime annual maintenance
  • Dedicated heavy-lift RV facility
  • Free Denver metro towing
  • Custom high-performance rebuilds

Cons

  • No phone quotes given
  • Four-hour diagnostic time
  • No general repair services
  • Closed on weekends

Customer Reviews:

Adam was an honest mechanic
I have a 2001 Honda Prelude with had issues needing replace parts. Adam was a honest mechanic and was able to rebuild the Tranny but parts were a challenge to the rebuild was difficult. My Regular mechanic is a Honda Specialist and he advised going to Adam. After about 2,000 miles of the rebuilt, the tranny was a champ. Adam Warranty for 12,000 miles was a blessing but wasn’t needed because of Adam’s great work for him and his staff..

Great people here
Great people here. Thought I had a blown transmission but they found out it was my transfer case and updated me immediately. They fixed it, gave me a good warranty, cleaned my truck, and checked my fluids and filters on the transmission. Had me back on the road within a few days. I will definitely go to them again.

2. AC Transmission

Address: 6780 Federal Blvd

Contact: (303) 428-6566

Hours: Monday – Friday: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM

AC Transmission has been a local staple since 1965, and it’s really hard to find that kind of family-owned longevity these days.

They offer a nationwide warranty through the ATRA network, so your repair is covered at over two thousand shops if you ever travel outside Colorado.

I like that they don’t just stop at gearboxes. They also handle diesel upgrades and large motorhomes. Their master technicians use computer scans and road tests to find the actual root cause of your car trouble.

They even aim for same-day service on many tasks to save you time. It’s also great that they offer general maintenance like brakes.

Just keep in mind that free towing only applies to major repairs. They also suggest frequent service intervals for older cars, which might feel like a lot.

Pros

  • Over 55 years of experience
  • Nationwide warranty protection
  • One-stop shop for general repairs
  • Certified master technicians

Cons

  • Conditional free towing policy
  • Frequent maintenance suggestions
  • Closed on weekends
  • No emergency weekend service

The quality of the work was excellent, the repair was completed on time and the price was fair.

3. Denver Transmission

Website: http://www.denvertransmission.com/

Address: 635 S Quitman St

Contact: (303) 478-8131

Hours: Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Denver Transmission takes a very personal approach to car care by letting you speak directly to a mechanic instead of a salesperson.

They focus on low-volume and high-quality work rather than rushing as many cars through the bays as possible.

I was really struck by their claim to provide better-than-factory-rebuilds by fixing the original design flaws that caused the failure. They also use high-end tech to reset the computer systems that manage how your car shifts gears.

Their two-year unlimited-mile warranty is a fantastic perk for anyone who does a lot of mountain driving.

But since they’re pure specialists, they will refer you elsewhere for things like tire rotations. You should plan ahead because they don’t accept weekend walk-ins.

Pros

  • Direct communication with mechanics
  • Unlimited mile warranty
  • Fixes original factory flaws
  • Free computer diagnostic scans

Cons

  • No general maintenance offered
  • Appointment only after hours
  • Closed for weekend walk-ins
  • Very narrow service scope

Customer Reviews

This shop is amazing
This shop is amazing. Hands down the best transmission shop I’ve dealt with. They’re honest, and exteremely straight forward. They have never tried to sell us on parts and maintenance that we don’t need. They’re also fast and reliable. Grant is great with keep up good communication and walking us through the process, I would highly recommend this shop to anyone!

Couldn’t be happier
I have had my car for just about a month since the “operation” and couldn’t be happier. Grant got my 99 Honda in tip top shape! It cost what he said it would and it was finished in a reasonable amount of time. The cost was also totally inline with what I researched online. Shifts like butter and is much faster. Look no further and go to Denver transmission for your transmission needs!

4. Detroit Transmission Specialist

detroit-transmission-specialist

Website: http://detroittransmissionspecialists.com/

Address: 1180 W 52nd Ave

Contact: (303) 425-0875

Hours: Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Detroit Transmission Specialist is the only place in town where you can find Suncoast Transmissions parts. These are huge for high-performance builds and heavy-duty diesel pickups.

Because they specialize in industrial gear, they’re a top choice for commercial drivers.

I really appreciate how they structured their team to finish rebuilds in just a few days. This gets you back to work quickly.

Tim Tapper has run this family-owned shop since 1980, so their local roots are very deep. And with a team of twelve employees, they have the muscle to handle large projects that smaller shops can’t manage.

However, if you drive a small gas-powered car, their expertise might feel like overkill. Their schedule is also very strict, so you can’t pick up your vehicle after they close on Friday.

Pros

  • Exclusive Suncoast dealer
  • Fast turnaround for rebuilds
  • Industrial-grade gear rebuilding
  • Large team for big projects

Cons

  • Not ideal for small gas cars
  • Strictly weekday hours
  • No weekend emergency help
  • Very niche specialization

Customer Reviews:

5. Cottman Transmission and Total Auto Care

cottman-transmission-and-total-auto-care

Website: https://denvercottman.com/

Address: 2630 S Broadway

Contact: (303) 586-6739

Hours: Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Cottman Transmission uses a detailed 21-point check to determine exactly what’s wrong before they start any major repairs. This local shop is part of a nationwide network, so your warranty is valid at any location in the country.

I think it’s very convenient that they offer total auto care, too. You can easily get your engine checked or your brakes done while your transmission is being serviced.

The owner is a Denver local who works hard to ensure the service feels personal and community-focused.

Their diagnostic process helps save you money by catching small issues before they get worse. And their technicians are skilled with both automatic and manual setups for nearly any car brand.

Just remember, they’re closed on weekends. It can be a hurdle for busy professionals who only have weekends free to handle automotive maintenance without disrupting their workweek.

Pros

  • Proprietary 21-point diagnostic
  • Nationwide warranty protection
  • Full mechanical service menu
  • operated

Cons

  • Closed most weekends
  • No phone estimates allowed
  • Thorough process takes time
  • Saturday is appointment only

Customer Reviews

Great and honest
Mark and his team were great and honest. Everyone is professional. Had to get a new transmission installed. Mark provided a good price and completed the work in a timely matter.

If you need a good shop to go to I recommend Cottman in Denver.

Honest Shop!
Honest Shop!!!  Cottman saved me literally thousands of dollars by carefully diagnosing my transmission issue.  Another well rated shop did the minimum and quoted me 4000-5200.  Cottman fixed the issue for around 900 dollars.  I will recommend Cottman to anyone.
